When Beauty Works Brought Us Together for Something Special
I wish I could put into words what last week meant to me...
Beauty Works organised the most incredible volunteer day at Little Lady Locks, and honestly, I'm still processing all the emotions. If you don't know about this amazing charity, Little Lady Locks provides free hair replacement systems to children under 18 who are experiencing hair loss due to alopecia, cancer treatment, or other conditions. Every single wig, every hair system, completely free of charge 💙
Why This Charity Work Means Everything
As someone who works with hair loss solutions every single day, I thought I understood the impact of what we do. But working with these brave little ladies? It hit different. These children are dealing with so much more than just hair loss... they're navigating school, friendships, their confidence, and trying to just be kids while managing something so visible and so public 🥹
One of the little boys was only 11 years old, his mum told us he'd missed months of school due to being bullied. He stopped going to sleepovers and doing the things he loved because he had such low self-esteem. Ready to start high school, his parents were desperate to find a solution. After his new hair fitting his whole energy changed, his confidence lifted instantly and I had to hold back tears 💫
That moment right there is why I do what I do.
The Power of Hair Replacement for Children
What Little Lady Locks does is so much more than providing wigs. They're giving these children back their childhood. They're giving them back their confidence to walk into school without feeling like everyone's staring. They're giving them back the freedom to be themselves without their condition defining them ❤️
The founder Ashley and her team work around the clock creating bespoke, natural-looking hair systems for every single child. Each system is custom made, hand knotted strand by strand, taking up to 60 hours to complete. And they do this all for free because they believe every child deserves to feel confident in their own skin 💙
Why Hair Integration Skills Matter More Than Ever
This experience has made me even more passionate about teaching women's mesh integration to hair professionals. The skills we use in mesh integration - understanding hair loss patterns, creating natural-looking coverage, working with sensitive scalps, customising systems - these are the exact same skills that charities like Little Lady Locks need from volunteers 🤎
If you've ever thought about training in hair integration or hair replacement systems, let me tell you... it's not just about building a business (although yes, there's massive demand for these services). It's about being able to give someone back a piece of themselves. Whether that's a woman going through postpartum hair loss, someone dealing with alopecia, or even volunteering your skills to help children like the ones at Little Lady Locks.
How Beauty Works is Making a Difference
Beauty Works didn't just organise this day... they're actively supporting the charity through donations and raising awareness in the hair extension industry. As professionals who work with hair every single day, we have such a unique opportunity to make a real difference 💫
The charity needs:
- Hair donations (at least 12 ponytails make one wig!)
- Financial support (£500 to transform donated hair into one complete system)
- Volunteers with hair skills to help with fittings and styling
- People spreading the word about their incredible work
What This Day Taught Me
I've been doing hair integration and hair replacement work for years now, and I absolutely love helping women reclaim their confidence through my mesh integration courses. But seeing the impact on these children has reignited something in me ❤️
We have such a gift as hair professionals. We're not just doing hair... we're changing lives. We're giving people back their confidence, their smile, the way they carry themselves every day. And when you can give that to a child who's already dealing with so much? That's something truly special 💙

The Most Rewarding Work
I've said it before and I'll say it again... this is the most rewarding job in the world. To be able to use our skills to make this kind of impact? To see a child walk out with their head held high, ready to take on the world?
I'm forever grateful to Beauty Works for organising this day, to Little Lady Locks for the incredible work they do every single day, and to every single person who donates their hair, their time, or their money to support these brave little ladies 🥹💙
