Popular Questions

How much can I earn fitting Hair extensions?

The earning potential in hair extensions is excellent! Mobile and salon-based hair extension technicians typically charge between £100-£150 for a full head fitting, plus profit on the hair itself (usually £50-£200 depending on quality and quantity). Many of our graduates earn £250-£1,000+ per week, with some building six-figure businesses.

Your income depends on factors like:

  • How many clients you take per week
  • Your pricing structure
  • Whether you work mobile or salon-based
  • Your location (London typically commands higher prices)
  • Your marketing efforts
  • Whether you work part-time or full-time

We cover pricing strategies and business planning on the course to help you maximize your earning potential.

Are your courses suitable for stay at home mums?

It's ideal! This is one of the reasons I'm so passionate about hair extension education. As a mum myself, I needed a career that would fit around school drop-offs, pick-ups, and family life. Hair extensions gave me that freedom. You can work from home, choose your hours, build your business around your children's schedules, and earn excellent money.

Many of our students are mums who've transformed their lives with this flexible, lucrative career.

Do I need a salon to fit Hair Extensions?

You do not need a salon to fit Hair extensions You can:

  • Work mobile (visiting clients in their homes)
  • Rent a chair in an established salon
  • Work from a home salon/studio
  • Open your own salon
  • Freelance in multiple locations

Mobile work has minimal overheads and is perfect when starting out. We cover all business models on the course, including the pros and cons of each, so you can decide what suits your lifestyle and goals.

Which Hair Extension Techniques Should I Learn First?

The three most requested methods in the UK market are:

  1. Tape-in extensions - Fast application, natural results, popular for busy clients
  2. Nano/Micro rings - No heat or glue, gentle on natural hair
  3. Weft extensions - Maximum volume, excellent for thicker hair

Starting with 2-3 complementary methods gives you versatility without overwhelming yourself. Tape-ins and nano rings together cover most client requirements.

As you gain confidence, you can add specialized techniques to serve niche markets or premium clients willing to invest more.

What Makes Remy Hair Different From Standard Extensions?

Remy hair represents premium quality human hair extensions where all cuticles remain intact and flow in the same direction - exactly like hair grows naturally.

Benefits of Remy hair:

  • Minimal tangling and matting
  • Can be heat styled repeatedly
  • Accepts colour and chemical treatments
  • Lasts 6-12 months with proper care
  • Incredibly natural appearance and movement

Standard human hair has mixed cuticle directions, causing friction and tangling. While cheaper initially, it requires replacement more frequently and doesn't deliver the same luxurious results.

Most successful extension specialists work primarily with Remy hair because satisfied clients become loyal, long-term customers who refer friends. The quality difference justifies premium pricing and protects your professional reputation.

How Frequently Do Hair Extensions Need Maintenance Appointments?

Maintenance schedules depend on the application method:

  • Tape-ins: Every 6-8 weeks
  • Nano/Micro rings: Every 8-10 weeks
  • Weft extensions: Every 6-8 weeks
  • Pre-bonded: Every 10-12 weeks

Each maintenance appointment typically generates £150-£250 in revenue, creating excellent recurring income. If you maintain 25 regular clients on 8-week cycles, you're scheduling approximately 12 appointments weekly just from existing clients.

Understanding maintenance requirements helps you educate clients about the ongoing commitment and builds realistic expectations. It also demonstrates the business model's strength - you're not constantly chasing new clients once established.

Is it worth investing in hair extension training?

Is It Worth Investing in Hair Extension Training?

Absolutely, and I'll tell you exactly why from someone who's been doing this for over twelve years.

Hair extension training is genuinely one of the smartest investments you can make in the beauty industry. Most of my students recoup their training costs after their second or third client appointment. After that, everything's profit.

Let's Talk Real Numbers

Quality hair extension training typically costs between £200-£800 depending on how many methods you're learning. Now compare that to what you'll actually earn:

Most extension appointments generate between £300-£1,000 per client. So if your course costs £500 and you charge £400 per appointment, you've covered your investment before you've even completed your third booking.

I've watched students working just two evenings a week generate £800-£1,200 monthly profit. That's over £10,000 yearly from barely any hours. My full-time specialists regularly build businesses earning £50,000-£100,000+ annually, with quite a few exceeding six figures once they're properly established.

Why Extensions Are Such a Profitable Service

Here's what makes this different from most beauty services.

The recurring income is gold: Extensions aren't one-and-done. Clients need maintenance every 6-10 weeks. Once you've built a solid base of 20-30 regular clients, you've got predictable monthly income without constantly hunting for new business. That stability is honestly life-changing.

You can charge premium prices: Hair extensions command significantly higher prices than standard salon services, and clients completely understand why. They're investing in confidence, and they're happy to pay properly trained specialists for quality results.

Your overheads stay low: You can work from home, go mobile, or rent chair space. You're not looking at massive start-up costs or expensive premises. Compared to most businesses, the barrier to entry is remarkably low.

Total flexibility: Whether you want full-time income, part-time earnings around the kids, or a side business alongside other work, extensions adapt to whatever lifestyle you're building.

The Market's There

The UK hair extension market keeps growing year on year. I'm not exaggerating when I say demand consistently outpaces the supply of properly trained specialists. Women across every demographic are investing in extensions for length, volume, colour, and confidence.

This isn't some flash-in-the-pan trend. Extensions have become as mainstream as highlights or treatments. Clients budget for them regularly because they know the transformation they get.

What You Need to Know Before Committing

I'm always honest with potential students about what to expect.

Your training quality matters enormously: Not all courses are created equal. Poor training leads to poor results, damaged client hair, and failed businesses. Invest in properly accredited training that teaches you business fundamentals alongside application techniques.

Success requires genuine effort: The earning potential is exceptional, but you'll need to practice, dedicate yourself to excellence, and genuinely care about client satisfaction. This isn't quick money. It's a proper skill-based business.

Expect a learning curve: Most new specialists spend their first few weeks practicing on friends and family at reduced rates. You're building confidence, refining technique, and creating portfolio work. Factor this into your timeline.

Who Thrives With Extension Training

I've trained hundreds of students, and the ones who build the most successful businesses tend to be:

  • Hairdressers wanting to add serious profit to their service menu
  • Beauty professionals looking to expand into something genuinely lucrative
  • Career changers who want flexibility and proper income
  • Parents needing work that fits around family life
  • Entrepreneurs attracted to low start-up, high-return businesses

If any of that sounds like you, you're exactly who I'm talking to.

My Honest Answer

If you're willing to learn properly, deliver brilliant client service, and build this professionally, hair extension training offers exceptional return on investment. Very few beauty skills give you this level of earning potential for such modest training costs.

The question isn't really whether it's worth investing. The question is whether you're ready to commit to building something sustainable. If you are, quality training becomes the foundation everything else is built on.

And from someone who's watched countless students transform their financial situations through this skill, I can tell you the investment pays for itself faster than you'd believe.
